This article describes the technical requirements for our devices to connect to your WiFi infrastructure.

Supported WiFi protocols

We support Open, WEP, WPA2 Personal, WPA2 Enterprise EAP-TLS and WPA2 Enterprise PEAP

Supported WiFi standards

Our devices currently support max. WiFi 5

Supported frequencies

Older displays (sold till mid of 2020) support only 2.4 GHz, newer devices also support the 5 GHz band.

Differences

2.4 GHz

+ Long range estimated 45 meters

+ Low frequency is good at penetrating objects such as walls or windows

- Slower speed

- More vulnerable to interferences, because many other devices use the same frequency, such as microwaves or landline phones

5 GHz

+ Short range estimated 15 meters

+ Higher frequency is less vulnerable for interferences

+ Quicker speed

- High frequency is bad at penetrating objects such as walls or windows

The range also depends on the IEEE 802.11 standards WiFi bands used, the numbers written here are average range expectations

Examples for physical obstacles and devices with the same 2.4 GHz band who affect the range

  • Physical obstacles:

    • Walls, Doors, Windows, Furniture, Water/Aquarium, TV, etc.

  • Devices who can use the same 2.4 GHz frequency band:

    • Other networks, Bluetooth devices, Microwaves, Baby monitors, Walkie talkies, etc.
